Our food relief runs out of the centre in Minto and it is open to anyone who needs it. Here is how it works.
Inside a hamper
Frozen meals and produce hampers. What is in a hamper changes week to week, because it depends on what comes in from our food partners. It is real food that a household can cook and eat, not novelty items nobody wants.
Who can get one
Anyone who needs one. There is no means test and no referral. You do not have to be in crisis, and you do not have to explain yourself. Plenty of people use it for a few weeks and then stop, which is exactly what it is there for.
What to bring
- Bags, ideally sturdy ones. Hampers are heavier than people expect.
- A cold bag if you have one and you are travelling a while, for the frozen meals.
- Nothing else. No paperwork.
The cost
The current arrangement, including whether a donation is asked for a hamper, is listed on the food relief page. Nobody is turned away for not being able to pay it.
When to come
The days and hours are on the food relief page. Stock varies with deliveries, so if you are travelling any distance it is worth ringing first on 02 9603 2500.
The community breakfast runs at the centre too, and a lot of people do both in the same week.
