Privacy

South West Multicultural and Community Centre runs this website. This page explains what the site collects, why, and what you can ask us to do about it.

The short version: you can read every page on this site without telling us who you are. We only receive your details if you choose to send them.

When you contact us

If you use the enquiry form on our contact page, we collect your name, your email address, your phone number if you give one, what your enquiry is about, and your message.

That information is emailed to the office at info@swmacc.org.au, and a copy is stored in this website’s database so an enquiry cannot be lost. We use it to answer you. We do not sell it, and we do not use it to advertise to you.

You do not have to use the form. You are welcome to ring the centre on 02 9603 2500, or simply come in during opening hours.

Coming to a program is separate

Using this website and attending a program are different things. Some programs keep their own records, and some are funded by government or partner organisations that require reporting. Where that applies, the staff running that program will tell you at the time what is recorded and who sees it. This page covers the website only.

Visitor statistics

This site uses two measurement tools: Jetpack Stats, provided by Automattic, and Google Analytics. Both count how many people visit and which pages they read, so we can tell what is useful and what nobody can find. Neither is used to identify individual visitors, and we do not use them to advertise to you.

Google Analytics loads on every page and sets a cookie so it can tell a returning visit from a new one. That means Google is told which of our pages you looked at. If you would rather that did not happen, a browser set to block third party cookies, or a tracker blocking extension, will stop it, and the site works normally without it.

Where the site is hosted

The site is hosted by Automattic on WordPress.com, and images are delivered through their content network. As with any website, their servers record technical information such as your IP address in order to send you the page you asked for.

Things we deliberately do not do

We have made some specific choices here, because people use this centre at difficult points in their lives and their visit should stay their own business.

  • Our fonts are served from our own site. Most websites load fonts from a third party, which tells that company every page you visit. Ours do not.
  • The map does not load until you ask for it. It loads only if you press the button, so we are not handing Google your location request before you have made one. Our analytics do tell Google which pages you viewed, which is described above.
  • We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not sell or share your details with anyone for marketing.

Cookies

We do not set advertising cookies and we do not run advertising trackers. Our measurement tools do set cookies: Google Analytics stores one so it can tell a returning visit from a new one. Small files are also stored by our security tools, and by WordPress itself if you are a staff member signed in to edit the site. Blocking them does not stop you using the site.

How long we keep enquiries

We keep website enquiries for as long as we need them to deal with your request and to keep a reasonable record of our work. If you would like your enquiry deleted sooner, ask us and we will do it.

Asking us what we hold

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also complain if you think we have handled your information badly. Contact us and we will deal with it. You do not need to explain why you are asking.
